Upside Down Week and True Love. . .

It has been a horrendous week and a half, I had a migraine for four days straight and then got a stomach virus when I was finally getting over the migraine.  In all of that I was trying to work and maintain my family.  I could use a couple of days off here.  I am very thankful for my dear husband and son, bless them for taking care of themselves during my week of craziness.  I soaked in a milk bath last night and I feel somewhat human this morning. My very sweet husband came home from work the other night and I was still not feeling well and he fixed me pancakes so I could get ready for work.  I love this man to the moon and back.  The Lord truly blessed me when he lead me to my dear hubby.  I only hope that my boys turn out half as good as their daddy and they will be a blessing to their mates as well.
With my stomach and my head being so out of whack, I decided I would revisit my 100 days of real food adventure and clean my diet up.  I am looking at more recipes for real food and options for packed lunches for work and school.  I try not to use plastic when packing lunches for myself especially if it is something that I have to reheat at the office.  Big T has been eating the hubbs chicken and rice soup almost everyday for dinner and that is a change up from sandwiches for a lunch option.  I just need to find a way he can take his soup and I had rather not use glass.  I will be searching hot food transportation options in the next few weeks for Big T's lunch.
I will be trying some new recipes in the next few weeks and I will share my triumphs and fails because, let's face it, there will be fails.
Stay tuned for Massachusetts updates and college visit updates. . . .

Doctors and D Poles. . .

Update on my many doctors' appointments, this is part of my self care routine.  I have neglected myself for the last 14 years while keeping up with the kids and the house.  I got a good report on my pap and my routine physical, got a good report on my Cologuard test so no colonoscopy for this girl.  Yesterday I had a visit with a doctor about my migraines.  He is an OB/Gyn but has personal experience with women with what I call menstrual migraines, those migraine like headaches that happen after your cycle that migraine medicine does not seem to help.  Mine are bad and have been for some time but, these last few years they seem to have gotten worse.  I had a nice visit with this doctor and funny thing his wife has gone through this same thing and here I thought I was all alone.  It was nice to talk with someone that you knew understood what you were saying.  I came away from that visit feeling like I may be on a path to remedy.  We have a plan and a follow up in 3 months to see how it helps.
Big T had his last lacrosse game he played well and I am happy and sad to see the season end.  They played a really good team last night and several of the kids Big T had played against and with when he played Summer league.  It was funny to see him talking with his friends on the other team. This teams coach had also coached him in Summer league so that was kinda funny too.  Big T has decided to play with Sprats' wooden D pole.  To play with a wooden D pole is a lot different than playing with the light weight aluminum, titanium, or scandium.  The wooden D pole is heavier and packs a punch when you hit someone with it.  Sprat abused the offense when he played with his D pole but Sprat was a little bigger than Big T is.  Sprat had no trouble wielding that D pole, he broke four poles last year over kids bodies.  It was fun watching Big T play with his brothers' pole last night.  He had several good hits and stopped several shots on goal. I was a little worried about how he would do with the heavier pole but he did great. I did not get to see him play on Tuesday night but he used it then too.   We did not get the W but it was great watching him play.

Well Child Check up or Whale Child?

Sprat suffers from migraines and takes a medicine every night to help prevent them.  It works like a charm.  He started having headaches when he was in the third grade and it seemed like he was taking Tylenol every day for many weeks.  We went to the doctor, had his eyes checked and a CT scan done to try and find the cause of these chronic headaches.   Sprat has a very high tolerance for pain so I was very concerned with the fact that he was complaining of headaches on a daily basis and requesting pain medicine for them.   This was very much out of character for him.  After all the tests came back normal, the doctor prescribed him a medicine to take every night before bed to prevent the headaches.   A couple of days on this medicine and he did not complain of headaches for a very long time.  He does have the occasional migraine and they did give him another medicine to take for instant relief if he does have one.
Because he takes this medicine on a daily basis he has to have yearly "well child check ups."   I told the hubby that we had an appointment for a "well child check up" and he laughed and said do you mean whale child check up.   My husband has a warped sense of humor for sure.   Sprat got the run through; eye exam, blood pressure, updated on shots, and a HA1c.   I requested the A1c since the hubbs has such a strong family history for diabetes and I wanted a baseline because this is genetic and both of my boys could develop it.   Everything was normal and Baby Huey is still growing.

Crazy week. . .

Sorry I have missed a few days.  Between the weather,  early dismissals, and this massive migraine I have been out of touch.   My migraines are inherited from my mom.  I remember some Sundays she would have to come home and go straight to bed.  She mostly reacted to perfume but occasionally the weather would get her.  I think mine are hormonal and weather related.  I have not had one this bad in at least a year.   This one lasted three days with no relief.
I am so glad that my classes were cancelled as well as my kids.   I hate the thought of driving in ice or snow.   I got caught at work one time with flurries.  I had gone  in to work on a Saturday to get caught up on some paper work.  It started snowing and I thought it would just snow a little and then be done in our typical fashion.  Hubby calls and tells me I should start heading home because it was getting bad there.  I left and had  to go by our main office before I could go home.  When I got to the main offfice it was coming down pretty good.  I ran in and made some copies and worked on my progress notes.  Hubby calls again and tells me I need to keave now.   I looked out and the parking lot was covered,  so I asked him how I should go home.   Should I go the back roads or the highway?  He said I would be safer to go the back way.  I was in our four wheel drive so I was not really worried except that I had not driven in the snow before.   My drive to work usually took 25 minutes roughly.   This particular nasty day it took 2 1/2 hours to get home.   I have never driven on such bad roads before.   I came to a slope and traffic was backed up the slope and stopped.  I decided I was going to turn around and go a different way.  I was clear to make the U turn but it was so slick that I did a 360 in the middle of the road.  That was terrifying!!!  When I finally came to a stop,  I was still in the road and facing the way I wanted to go so off I went.  I got the lecture of a lifetime when I got home.   I now know I can drive in this mess if I have to but, I hope I never have to again.
